Section 5: Explain the Reason for this Appeal

A PRE was previously granted to myself and my husband by the Oak Park Assessing Department, based on a written life estate granted to myself and my

husband through a trust the property is held in. The PRE denial envelope postmark shows it was mailed September 16, 2026 and the denial form is dated

September 15, 2026. The Michigan Department of Treasury Principal Residence Exemption Guidelines issued August 2022 provide life estate information that

suggests that my husband and I should be considered partial owners of our residence due to the written life estate, and that us never owning the property prior

to acquiring the life estate should not disqualify us from a PRE. A partial owner is listed as an eligible owner under MCL 211.7dd. Therefore, we are appealing

the recent PRE denial, the increased tax assessment for the current & prior three years, and the interest applied to the prior three years.
