Docpzrad XS - 002733 Reason For Appeal "An addition added to the property in 2024 resulted in an increase of about 225sq/ft of living space. A large portion of an existing deck (of about the same size) was demolished and taken away to make space for the addition. Before the addition was added, the house had about 1400sq/ft of living space, thus the addition added about 16% to the overall footprint. Ann Arbor increased property taxes 3% for 2025, so | expected an overall increase in the taxable value of about 20%. A neighbor who did an addition in 2023 experienced a 2024 tax increase that was commensurate with the percent increase their addition added to their overall living space, which helped solidify my expectation for an increase of about 20%. The city reassessed the property for the 2025 tax year, and increased the taxable value by approximately 45%m from $136,607 in 2024 to $198,641 in 2025. This increase seems completely out of line with just about any metric that can be applied as a result of the addition. There was no plumbing added, and even the existing HVAC did not require upgrading, although we dd update the AC since the existing unit was old and in need of replacement. | suggest an increase in taxable value to about $164,000 would be much more consistent with the value added as a result of the addition.
