STATE OF MICHIGAN GRETCHEN WHITMER GOVERNOR DEPARTMENT OF LICENSING AND REGULATORY AFFAIRS LANSING MARLON I. BROWN, DPA DIRECTOR 2 of 3 Home purchased 11/2025 for $728,453. Property was a bidding war situation. Previous sold in 2019 for $450,000. This tax assessment would more than double the 2025 taxes paid. This home and surrounding neighbors tax evaluations all reduced by approximately $7,000 in 2024-25. Original tax assessed value for 2026 was $459,100 - roughly over-valuing home at $918,200. This amount was reduced (due to the Board of Review) to $387,400 which is still higher than the purchase price and the appraisal of $770,000 (please note that the comparable size of properties apprasied varied greatly from our 7.5 acres. Three comparable properties had 20,44 & 95 acre parcels. We feel that the appraisal value was high.) We have had substantial expenses to safely live in the home: raining in the basement due to leaks in the chimney and foundation - caused us to remove the chimney completely, remove the wood burning furnace and dig down 3 feet around the foundation to replace rotted wood and to properly install a protective seal. This also required pulling up the patio and replacing it. Upstairs deck - replaced due to rotted out banisters - literally seperated from posts. Front steps disintegrated and needed to be replaced. Not proper insulation in the crawl space - resulting in very high propane bills - had to condition and properly insulate the crawl space. Replaced exterior door in the basement as you could see daylight/air around the frame. Finally finding out the home next door, 3551 Donna Lane - vacant, is the owned by Jason & Jessica Klimp - convicted child abuse felons serving 10 years to life in prision in MI & TN. Jurisdictional Issues: Did you protest the assessment at a Board of Review?
