STATE OF MICHIGAN GRETCHEN WHITMER GOVERNOR DEPARTMENT OF LICENSING AND REGULATORY AFFAIRS LANSING MARLON I. BROWN, DPA DIRECTOR 2 of 3 I was assessed what I felt was a higher than normal tax value so I went to the board meeting to review. Was told I needed to sit in a formal hearing which I did. After the hearing , the board rendered a decision to raise me even more and sited the value increase was due to a finished basement. The finished basement was there for 12 years prior to my purchase but never included in the previous owners assessment. It should not be my responsibility to cover what the assessment department in Argentine missed for years. There is also the Headlee Act which caps my increase to 5% per year unless these is a major change which the board put on me for the finished basement.
