STATE OF MICHIGAN GRETCHEN WHITMER GOVERNOR DEPARTMENT OF LICENSING AND REGULATORY AFFAIRS LANSING ORLENE HAWKS DIRECTOR Section 5: Explain the Reason for this Appeal To the Michigan Tax Tribunal, I’m writing to request a retroactive Principal Residence Exemption (PRE) for my home at 5520 Crabtree rd. I purchased the home in September 2019 and have lived in it full time ever since. It has always been my primary residence and has never been used as a rental or second home. At the time I bought the house, I wasn’t aware that I needed to file a separate PRE form. I relied on my realtor and loan team during the process, and this requirement was never brought to my attention. Because of that, I didn’t realize anything was missing until much later. Since then, I’ve seen my property taxes increase significantly compared to what they would have been with the PRE in place. As soon as I became aware of the issue, I took steps to correct it. I’m asking that you consider this as good cause to allow the PRE to be applied retroactively. I’ve consistently lived in the home as my primary residence since 2019, and my intent has always been to claim it as such. Thank you for your time and consideration. Sincerely, Dirk Greene 248-520-5924 Section 6: Jurisdictional Issues List the year(s) denied: 7 Indicate who denied the exemption under appeal: Other If you checked “other” above, explain: List the date the Principal Residence Exemption or Qualified Agricultural Exemption was denied: Fee Information A fee of $25.00 is required for the filing of this appeal unless you possess a Principal Residence Exemption of at least 50% at the time of the filing of this petition.
