Section 5: Explain the Reason for this Appeal

We bought and moved to 6211 Lerner Way Lansing Mi, in Sept 2024, and the property was homesteaded. We left to go South for the winter, leaving in November of

2024 and returning in May of 2025. Six months. We did have our realtor checking our mail. But went we got home we found the mailbox had been ripped off and

set on the front porch. We then went to the Post Office looking for our mail but there was none. Our realtor never said anything about this. We know he was

checking it at first but had no idea that he had apparently stopped checking it. In July we received our Summer Tax bill. The bill was for 7,064.50 and the homestead

exemption had been removed. We call the Assessor's office and was told that they removed the Home Stead Exemption and had listed our house as vacant property.

They said they had mailed out our yearly assessment form in March, but it had been returned by the Post Office. Then they sent us a form giving us 30 days to

respond that someone was living here. After that they listed the property as vacant and cancelled the HS Exemption.

Therefore, we did not try to do anything wrong. We thought we had checked all the boxes but was let down by our realtor. We are hoping the State will correct this

issue, which was not done intentionally, and allow us to still use the Homestead property exemption. Also, we would appreciate it if you would look at our Tax bill

and make sure we our being Taxed correctly.

Even with the HS Property tax we are being charged over 5,000 dollars for summer tax and 1,200 for Winter taxes. This seems really high. Thank you, Fred

Cotterman
